\n \nOur ocean-to-river beach home(s) frequently serve as a base for wedding parties and guests that have arranged beachfront wedding ceremonies, receptions or other events at the nearby House of Refuge (a museum and local historical attraction 200 yards north of the beach houses), or other nearby venues, such as The Mansion at Tuckahoe or Marriott's Huchinson Island Resort.
\n \nHaving said that, it's important to remember that our ocean-to-river beach houses are private homes located in a quiet beachfront community of ocean-to-river beach houses. We are not wedding or event planners. We are not caterers. We do not stage or produce weddings, renewal of vows, or other substantial events. We also lack certain important resources such as banquet facilities and large dance floors. If you have a small do-it-yourself beachfront wedding in mind, we do have a few dozen white wedding chairs that you may place on the beach, but that is the extent of our wedding-related resources available to you. Anything larger, and we recommend hosting your wedding and/or reception at a nearby venue.

\nSo while we lack the facilities to host anything other than a very small wedding or reception, our beach homes provide a great opportunity for family and friends to lodge close to one another and share time together. (Many of our houses are next-door to one another, which makes it easy to support very large parties of 20, 30, 40 or more.) And to help with your wedding budget, we offer a 5% discount when booking two or more beach houses at the same time.
\n \nNote: \"As Good as it Gets\" tends to field more wedding parties than the other properties, owing to the large private beach to the north, which places it closest to the House of Refuge, and also provides the best photo opportunities.

With the Bahamas 60 miles to the east acting as a buffer, our Atlantic Ocean waters are calmer than in most Eastern seaboard areas, and our little barrier island has an excellent history of withstanding storms and hurricanes. The summer months, generally speaking, offer the most calm-water days of any of the four seasons. That being said, it's still the Atlantic. And it's still an ocean, presenting all of the dangers and risks inherent in any ocean-swimming scenario.
\n\n\n\n\nFortunately, when the ocean is in one of its more ferocious moods, or perhaps some of your little swimmers feel a bit anxious about the big ocean waters, there are two fantastic safer-swimming alternatives, both just steps away: Option 1: Swim in in the pristine waters of the Indian River Lagoon, just 15 paces outside your front door. (see \"River Swimming\" below). Option 2: An Atlantic Ocean beach so calm that it is called \"Bathtub Beach\" -- it's a place where locals bring their toddlers -- is just a short walk away (See \"Bathtub Beach\" below).
\nRiver swimming: Our riverside beach is also perfect for swimming and play. Grown-ups can enjoy the afternoon on the dockside Tiki-Hut \"Sunset Pavilion\", while watching the family frolick in the water. These waters are only knee-high to waist-high, until near the end of the dock, where the depth is closer to 3 feet to 6 feet.
\n\n\n\n\nWARNING: Please do not approach or touch dolphins, manatees or sea turtles, who frequently swim in the waters near the beach and around the dock. These are protected species, and you could be arrested for interacting with them too aggressively. (see videos below, actual footage from our beach houses)

Bathtub Beach: Ocean too rough today? Or perhaps a toddler or beginning swimmer is a little nervous? Walk a half-mile south to a hidden gem known to locals as \"The Bathtub\". The bathtub is actually a public beach (\"Bathtub Reef Beach\"), complete with lifeguard & public facilities, but due to its isolation at the far end of our no-exit barrier island, it is fairly unknown in the area except to the immediate locals.
\n\n\nThe bathtub is where locals bring toddlers and kids who aren't strong swimmers yet. It gets its name from its bathtub-like calm and shallow waters, created by rocky outcroppings about 100 yards out in the sea, which cut down the choppy waves. It's an easy beach walk from your ocean-to-river beach house to the Bathtub, unless you're carrying supplies & toddlers, in which case we recommend taking the short drive in a car, as there is ample public parking.

Did you know that the dock at your Beach House lies in the most biologically diverse estuary in America? The southern terminus of the Indian River Lagoon features Dolphin, Manatees, sea turtles, dozens of freshwater and saltwater fish species, crustaceans, sea horses . . . on and on the list goes.

In May 2015, marine biologists with the Florida Oceanographic Institute sought to revisit the original, definitive May 1974 study and water sampling -- then performed by the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute -- that first brought awareness to how stunningly rich -- and fragile -- is the local marine environment surrounding our Beach Houses in Paradise. (Paradise, indeed!) The researchers dropped a seine net into \"Bessie Cove\" ... in near-shore shallow waters just a few houses south of your beach house.
Result: While the experts concluded that storm runoff and other modern dangers pose a greater pollution threat than 40 years ago, our waters remain as stunningly rich in life as ever . . . and more fragile than ever. (Please respect our waters during your beach house vacation).

Grant Gilmore, who conducted a seining survey in 1974, recreated the survey with employees from the Florida Oceanographic Society on May 28. \"We caught a number of species that I haven't seen in a number of years,\" said Gilmore. \"I think it went quite well to see these fish here again\" (SAM WOLFE/TREASURE COAST NEWSPAPERS)
HOW THEY DID IT:\nOn May 28, scientists pulled a 50-foot seine net through Bessie Cove and two nearby spots. We could not return to the original Seminole Shores site about 100 yards away because it had been dredged for a marina, now Sailfish Point. Our unscientific experiment was led by fisheries biologist Grant Gilmore, then head of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce and now senior scientist at Estuarine, Coastal and Ocean Science in Vero Beach. Participants included five Florida Oceanographic Society staff and volunteers and Our Indian River Lagoon lead reporter Tyler Treadway, outdoors writer Ed Killer and photographer Sam Wolfe.

About the seining survey done in the Indian River Lagoon on May 28th, 2015: \"I think this shows how important sea grass is to the health of the lagoon,\" said Grant Gilmore who originally conducted the survey in 1974. \"These inlet sea grass beds support the reef fisheries offshore.\"
